Description

In order to meet increased demand for new aircraft-engine orders coming from customers in Asia, Rolls-Royce strategises and facilitates the company’s largest investment to date: the US$565 million Seletar Campus in Singapore – a 154,000 square metre site housing cutting-edge manufacturing, training and research capabilities. This case is set in April 2013, and discusses the key elements that contributed to the success of the new Rolls- Royce Singapore Seletar Campus.

While building the facility was relatively straightforward, sourcing the right talent was more challenging. Rolls-Royce knew that the local labour market lacked enough seasoned aerospace technicians with the desired manufacturing experience to meet their requirements. To overcome this challenge, Rolls-Royce collaborated with new and existing partners to develop a comprehensive talent ecosystem from which Rolls-Royce could source its talent.

Students will have an opportunity to understand the concept of ‘ecosystem advantage’ in building a pipeline of human capital as illustrated in the case and brought out in the discussion. They will appreciate how companies can leverage ecosystems to deliver complex solutions, while maintaining corporate focus.
